Gillian is a recent graduate of Illinois's midwifery program. Gillian has moved all over the country, finally landing in Chicago where she has called home for the past 5 years. She spent her childhood in Pennsylvania, her high school years in Florida and then moved up to New England for college. Gillian earned a B.S. in Neuroscience from Middlebury College and began to explore her love of healthcare outside of the classroom as a volunteer at the local free clinic. With a long-standing passion and interest in healthcare, Gillian has worked with patients at a free clinic in Vermont, a medical van for homeless youth in Arizona and for women in Chicago. Upon graduating from college, she explored an interest in research studying the genetics of Alzheimer's disease in Arizona. Before coming to Chicago to begin her career as a nurse, doula and eventually a midwife, she explored healthcare economics and policy at a consulting firm in Boston, but knew her passion lied in working directly with patients. Prior to joining WSWH, she also provided women's health education in Uganda, Africa. Having begun her work in childbirth as a doula, Gillian truly enjoys the opportunity to share the birth experience with women. She is passionate about providing individualized and compassionate care. Her philosophy is captured in one of her favorite quotes, There's a secret in our culture, and it's not that birth is painful. It's that women are strong. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and especially her nephew, who also lives in Chicago. She loves biking, spending time outside and doing yoga.
